Course Description: Devotion to Amitabha and Amitayus Buddhas originates in medieval India, and is an integral part of Mahayana religious culture. Today, such devotional practice forms one of the most popular forms of Buddhism, and is found in Tibet, China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan and the West. Course topics include the textual sources, major figures, and key institutions.
Course format: Online discussion.
Evaluation method: Participation/term paper.
