New Stackable Curriculum Offers Flexibility and Personalization

The Institute of Buddhist Studies strives to create an academic environment that is rigorous, thorough, and engaged, and that meets the personal and professional needs of a diverse student body. To this end, we are excited to announce the introduction of a “stackable curriculum” model. Recognizing that no two students are identical, the stackable curriculum will allow students from a variety of vocational and professional backgrounds to utilize our courses in a way that is tailored to their unique needs and goals.

The curriculum is designed so that students can build their education upwards, in concrete steps. Students may benefit from completing a certificate and applying those units toward the completion of a degree program, or they may elect to enroll in a degree program from the start. Students may choose from a wide variety of courses and areas of study.

In addition to the introduction of our stackable curriculum, IBS would like to announce that our degree program previously known as the “Master of Buddhist Studies” is now renamed the “Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies.” This name change in part reflects our shift to the new stackable curriculum model and a desire to emphasize the program’s focus on Buddhist Studies (as opposed to the GTU MA’s inter-religious studies emphasis).
