2015 Annual Memorial Service

The Institute of Buddhist Studies conducted its annual Memorial Service to express it deepest gratitude to many IBS friends, who have supported the dream of IBS, on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Jodo Shinshu Center in Berkeley, CA.
This past year, the IBS lost five devoted supporters: Dr. Taitetsu Unno, Rev. Seishin Yamashita, Dr. James Doi, Mrs. Edith Oto, and Mr. Noboru Hanyu.
Rev. Dr. David Matsumoto, IBS Professor of Shin Buddhist Studies, chaired the service.
Rev. Marvin Harada, member of the IBS Board of Trustees, read the names of those honored.
Rev. Dr. Richard Payne, Dean, gave the Dharma Talk. He stated, “After more than 60 years of its existence, since its founding in 1949, there are many who have gone before us, and whose efforts have built this institution. Each have, in their on way, contributed to keeping alive the spirit of the founding generation and the vision of propagating Shinran Shonin’s Pure Land teachings in the United States. We wish to honor their contributions and recall their memory to guide us in or present, and into our future.”
