The Rev. Dr. Seigen Yamaoka Memorial Dormitory offers students a quiet, respectful living space for focused study, reflection, and community connection.
The building’s first floor includes a shared kitchen with ample space for resident food and storage, common rooms, and a separate one-bedroom apartment. The apartment is furnished and has a separate kitchen and bathroom. Twelve furnished single-occupancy rooms on the building’s second floor share three spacious bathrooms with showers. Free laundry is onsite, and room charges cover all utilities including high-speed wireless internet.
The dorm is located just south of the UC Berkeley campus, close to several AC Transit bus lines, and a twenty minute walk from the IBS campus at the Jodo Shinshu Center.
Resident preference is given to IBS degree program and certificate students; students from the GTU consortium; graduate students in Buddhist studies at UC Berkeley; and students with a connection to one of IBS’s institutional partners.
