Engaged Buddhism, US and Japan: Past, Present and Future

Supported by the Ryukoku University Research Center for Buddhist Culture in Asia, this workshop will explore the history of engaged Buddhism in the US in conversation with social engagement in Japan. Speakers will discuss their work with the US-based Buddhist Peace Fellowship along with a discussion of bonmori (temple wives) in Japan. This dialogue hopes to encourage mutual awareness of the broad spectrum of Buddhist response to social suffering, both institutionally and as individuals.
